Yardbirds
In August of 1991, a Louisville father and son picked up a heavy metal habit, as it were. It all started when Richard Kolb Sr. welded a peacock out of scrap metal and named him Rupert Rakewing. The fowl created a nest of talk and a flurry of interest. More Frankensteinian birds followed suit and soon a veritable flock flourished. These days the father-son-duo and a group of artists continue to make birds, but they have also expanded the menagerie to include snails, sea serpents, deer, mice, dogs, and cats. Each bird has its own personality. While certain designs are made regularly, no two birds are alike. Whether it's a turn of the head, the placement of the eyes, or the variation in the hand-painted finish, each Yardbird has delightful disposition all its own.
